Livingston Village Kirk Renovation
Dear Friend
Work will start on She renovations of the building on Monday January 11. A new ceiling is being installed and roof timbers strengthened, thereafter the roof is to be reslated before work on the external stonework takes place.
As part of the works we are to get a small kitchen and disabled - access toilet as well as a small vestry.
The contract requires that we have the building returned to us for use by Easter Sunday (April 4).
However the stonework replacement/restoration will go on into May.
We are under the guidance of Historic Scotland in this as the building is B listed.
Temporary accommodation will be in the gym hall of the Village Primary School.
We shall have access for two hours from 9 - 1 lam each Sunday. Chairs will be provided.
The time of the Service is being brought forward by 15 minutes to 9.45 to ensure we are out of the school by 11 am otherwise we shall be in breach of our agreement with the Community Council who arrange janitorial services with West Lothian Council's Education Department.
If you have your own hymn book which you leave in the church week by week please take it home with you each Sunday.
We hope that we will not be unduly inconvenienced by this disruption and look forward to a joyful Easter celebration in our newly restored and revivified kirk.
Yours sincerely
Graham W Smith

LIVINGSTON VILLAGE KIRK
Notes by: R M Spearman
"The church and manse of Livingston are delightfully situated (for the clergy had always some taste even for an earthly paradise) upon a dry mound, half encircled by the water of Almond. They are both modern and neat."
